Social Media Posting Leads To Arrest - Multiple Criminal Charges

A 31 year old man from Edmonton and a 28 year old woman from Moose Jaw are facing multiple charges after being arrested in a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon.

Just after 5:30 PM Police received a call from a citizen reporting a suspicious truck parked on a parking lot at Faithfull Ave and 42nd A St E. The caller indicated that he had seen a picture of the truck posted on a social media site with a caption indicating that the operator of the truck had left a service station without paying for fuel. The incident apparently occurred in a town west of Saskatoon. There were also indications that the truck may be stolen.

Patrol officers responded to the area and located the truck as well as two occupants, a man and a woman.

Officers were able to determine that the truck had been stolen several days earlier from Edmonton, Alberta. Police also discovered that the woman was wanted on several arrest warrants for theft and fraud.

Found within the stolen truck were false identity documents, a printer, and other items related to fraudulent criminal activity. Also found was over 200 grams of cannabis resin.

The duo are now in custody and have been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of stolen property as well as breaching existing court conditions. The investigation is continuing and more charges may be forthcoming.
