Saskatoon Police arrested a 29 year old Saskatoon man after receiving a disturbance complaint.
At approximately 6:03 p.m., October 3rd, 2018, Patrol members were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Ave X North. Upon arriving a Patrol officer encountered a male who had an outstanding warrant for break and enter. The male then brandished a box cutter and fled from the scene.
During the foot pursuit the male suspect turned back towards the officer at which point the CEW was deployed. This was ineffective and the foot pursuit continued. At numerous points during the incident the suspect stopped and advanced on the officer threatening to harm himself. The foot pursuit continued across all lanes of traffic along 22nd Street West.
Fortunately the suspect was taken into custody without any further use of force in the area of 22nd Street West and Ave X South. No one was injured during the incident.
The male will be appearing in Saskatoon Provincial Court and facing charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon and breaching his undertaking. He was also arrested on his outstanding warrants.
The CEW deployment will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
