As we approach the holiday gift shopping season, the Saskatoon Police Service wants to remind shoppers to not leave anything of value in their vehicles.
An increased number of people will be frequenting shopping centres, grocery stores and department stores. In many cases, people will leave purchases in their vehicles while they continue to shop. Please remember to lock purchases in the trunk of your vehicle and keep them out of plain view for would-be thieves to act on crimes of opportunity.
"When we look at the numbers, there have been more thefts from motor vehicles this year than over the average of the previous five years," says Randy Huisman, Superintendent of Patrol. "We know that people will be out and about this month, so we are asking them to take proactive steps to protect their purchases."
For the month of December, there will also be an increased presence of Beat Officers in the Central and Riversdale Business Districts encouraging people to remove their valuables or place them out of sight.
