A man is in custody following a theft of auto that resulted in a collision with a police vehicle.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., December 24, 2018 officers were called to the 300 block of Avenue R South. A woman reported that she had been loading up her vehicle when someone approached her, pushed her to a ground and drove away in it. Officers were quickly able to locate the stolen vehicle. The driver refused to stop so a tire deflation device was deployed. Three of the four tires were disabled however the driver again refused to stop. While traveling on tire rims at a slow speed, the suspect vehicle struck an SPS traffic vehicle at Valens Drive. It then proceeded to the 1600 block of 33rd Street where the suspect abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee. A Canine Unit was able to quickly apprehend the suspect.
He is now facing a number of charges.
No one was injured during the incident.
