Break And Enter Suspect Caught After K9 Track - Officer Injured

On February 3, 2019 at 12:52 p.m. Saskatoon Police were alerted to a break and enter in progress in the 1500 block of Early Dr to a house under construction. A witness observed that property was missing from the house and followed the male. The male got into a van and fled the scene southbound to Taylor St, then westbound to Louise Av where the van crashed into a snowbank.

Two officers arrived on scene shortly after and attempted to arrest the man. The man resisted police. A struggle ensued where one officer was injured. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed but was ineffective. The male fled on foot eastbound.

A K9 track went northeast and the male was arrested in a backyard shed in the 1600 block of Sommerfeld Av.

A 33 year old Saskatoon man sustained injuries consistent with a dog bite. The man was assessed by Medavie Heatlh Services and then transported to cells.

The man is charged with, Break Enter and Commit Indictable Offence, Possession of Stolen Property Valued at Over $5000, Assault Peace Officer and Failing to Comply With Two Court Release Documents.

The police officer was transported to hospital for assessment.
