On May 30th Saskatoon Police were called regarding a bus that had been seen driving erratically. The bus was transporting children home from an east side school at the end of the day. Based on the numerous interviews conducted by investigators we have been able to determine that:
• The bus picked the children up in the 1500 block of Arlington Avenue at 3:25 p.m.
• The bus veered off its usual route and traveled to 8th Street east where it stopped in front of a grocery store.
• The bus then continued up and down 8th Street until it made its way to Lansdowne Avenue.
• It was then spotted by another bus driver who stopped the bus near Victoria and 7th Street at approximately 4:00 p.m.
During this time a few children were dropped off at stops along the way. No one was injured and each child did make it home safely. There was a report that a parked vehicle was hit by the bus during this incident, however investigators were not able to find that vehicle and a related hit and run was never reported to police.
Though police received several calls following this incident, the investigation has determined that no calls were made to police while the driver was still in her bus.
The 63 year old woman is scheduled to make her first appearance in court on July 25th at 9:00 a.m.
Insp. Rick Penny will be available to answer questions in a media scrum in front of the police service at 1:30 p.m. today.
