Attempted Street Robbery

10:36 am August 5, 2007, an adult female was in the breezeway of a Shopping Plaza in the 2400 blk of 22nd St W when a male attempted to rob her of her purse.

Two adult male citizens intervened by yelling and approaching the suspect. A foot chase started with the suspect running East on 22nd St. At one point the suspect threatened the two citizens with being stabbed by a knife. At another point, in the foot chase, the suspect picked up a beer bottle, broke it off and threatened the citizens with it as well.

The police attended just as the suspect ran into an apartment hallway in the 100 blk Ave T S, where he was arrested.

A 36 year old male has been charged with 2 counts of Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Assault to Cause Bodily Harm, one count of Attempted Robbery. He will be appearing before a Justice of the Peace.

The police are appreciative of the help from the two citizens but want the public to be aware of the inherent dangers of confronting people during the commission of crimes. This situation is an excellent example of the dangers involved. We are thankful that there was no major injury to the two citizens.
