Saskatoon Police Fraud Section and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commercial Crime Section have a warning for residents regarding identity theft. The identity theft appears to be originating from data collected from public open access computers, such as those found in libraries, cafes featuring internet access, hotels, and motels.
The public is reminded that these computers are not secure and that card numbers, confidential logins and passwords are capable of being captured by these computers.
The Saskatoon Police Fraud Section and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commercial Crime Section are requesting that persons using public open access computers check their statements regularly notify their financial institution or the Fraud Section, Identity Theft Unit or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commercial Crime Section if discrepancies are noticed.
