A 19 year old Saskatoon woman is facing a charge of public mischief following a search of the river and riverbank Monday, Sept 10, 2007.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. yesterday police were called to the riverbank along Spadina Crescent West near the water treatment plant. A young woman reported that she and another female were sexually assaulted by several assailants, bound, and thrown into the river. A search involving police officers, the Air Support and K9 Units and the Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services Water Rescue Team was started while Investigators continued to talk to the woman. However, no second victim was found.
Following further investigation overnight Investigators have now determined that much of the woman's story to police was not truthful. Members of the Sex Crime Unit are continuing their investigation however, original allegations of multiple assailants and a second victim appear to be false.
The woman will appear in Provincial Court Tuesday, September 11th at 2:00 p.m.
