On August 13, 2017 at 11:08 p.m., police observed a male walking at the intersection of 21st Street West and Avenue P South. This male matched the description of a suspect sought in a robbery which occurred earlier in the evening (17-84600). As officers approached on foot and attempted to stop the male he refused their commands and pointed bear spray towards the officers and sprayed in their direction. The members were exposed to the spray but attempted to pursue. The officers then lost sight of the suspect.
A K9 unit then attended and tracked the suspect to a home in the 200 block of Avenue P South. The suspect was on the roof of the home. Police surrounded the residence and learned that the suspect had broke into the home but was forced out by the home owner. The suspect had then climbed onto the roof of the house. While on the roof he disobeyed commands to come down, was acting irrationally and eventually sprayed himself with the bear spray. Police were then able to take him into custody from the roof top. It was determined that this person was not the same person responsible for the robbery earlier in the evening. However, the 17 year old male has been charged with assaulting the officers, carrying a weapon dangerous to the public, break and enter and was breaching his court ordered conditions.
