Correction to previous release. Police were able to clear the scene by 9:35 AM, ( not PM as previously stated).
There was a significant police response this morning in the Willowgrove part of the city. At 8:40 AM a male person called the SPS Communications Centre, identified himself and indicated he was at a residence on Lucyk Cres and was holding two people hostage. The caller added that he had shot one of the hostages "in the knee" , went on to demand a ransom and indicated he was equipped with firearms and explosive devices.
Police and personnel from Medavie Health Services West responded, however after a short time officers were able to determine that the call was a hoax and that the residents at the home on Lucyk Cres. were not in any way involved.
Police were able to locate a man at another residence in the city , whose name was used by the caller, however it has been determined that person was also in no way involved.
Police were clear of the scene by 9:35 PM. The investigation is continuing in an effort to determine who actually did call police, however at this point there is very little additional information.
