A 30-year-old man remains in hospital for observation following an incident earlier this morning that resulted in the deployment of a conducted energy weapon.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., January 10, 2019, Police responded to a report of a person who had barricaded himself in a guest room at a hotel in the 300 block of Circle Drive. When officers arrived, they could hear a loud disturbance coming from inside the room, and the male refused to open the door. When Police gained entry to the room, the man was holding a piece of broken glass and harming himself. He then lunged at Officers at which point a conducted energy weapon was deployed and the man was taken into custody without further incident.
He was transported to hospital for observation, and will be charged with Assault Police Officer and Mischief.
The deployment will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
