A female youth is facing charges after she tried to flee from a traffic stop in a vehicle that was reported stolen a few hours earlier.
At approximately 2:45 a.m., March 31, 2019, a woman was approached by two female pedestrians while stopped at Matheson Drive and 33rd Street. They threatened the lone occupant to exit the vehicle, and then got in and drove off. One woman was armed with what was reported to be a stick.
A few hours later, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Patrol officers observed the stolen vehicle driving in the wrong lane of traffic at a very slow rate of speed on 18th Street near Avenue X South. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned onto Avenue P and as it sped northbound, it struck a semi trailer that was turning southbound onto Avenue P.
The 15-year-old female driver of the stolen vehicle was not seriously injured and was taken into custody without further incident. She is charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Evade Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. (Court Info #991085880).
