Public Advisory - Fraudulent Internet Scams

Saskatoon Police want to remind people to be vigilant after receiving two reports of fraudulent Internet scams.

In both cases, the complainants reported being contacted via Facebook about collecting prize money. In each case, the victims made several transactions that totalled over $70,000.

Police wish to remind people that;

  • Known lottery and sweepstakes companies will never request money up front in order to receive a prize.
  • Any fees associated to winnings will never be paid through a money service business (such as Western Union or MoneyGram).
  • Be mindful of unsolicited offers and when someone contacts you about winning a contest that you didn't enter.
  • Verify the identity of the offer, or person reaching out to you, by independently contacting the legitimate company.
