The Saskatoon Police Service has concluded its planned public safety and traffic enforcement activities following a busy weekend of events across the city.

In advance of this year’s events, the SPS conducted operational planning and shared public messaging to ensure drivers understanding of what to expect. Additional police resources were deployed throughout the weekend to support public safety, manage traffic and address unsafe driving behaviour.

“Cruise weekend and several other events this past weekend brought a significant increase in vehicle and pedestrian activity to different areas of the city,” said Inspector Tony Landry, Patrol Support. “While most enjoyed the weekend responsibly, our members maintained a highly visible presence to manage increased traffic, address unsafe driving and help ensure the event could be enjoyed safely.”

Over the course of the weekend, police conducted the following enforcement:

341 Summary Offence Tickets, primarily for speeding, distracted driving and stunting/racing;

149 warnings;

332 Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests; and

17 suspended drivers and eight impounds.

Other notable events included:

A vehicle travelling 64 km/h over the speed limit (114 km/h in a 50 km/h zone);

A motorcyclist evaded police and was observed by the SPS Air Support Unit travelling 101 km/h (in a 50 km/h zone).
