Intimate Partner Violence Response Team

In January 2025, the Saskatoon Police Service launched a new Intimate Partner Violence Response Team (IPVRT) to address the high rates of intimate partner violence in our city. Developed in partnership with Family Service Saskatoon, this multidisciplinary team pairs an SPS Constable and outreach worker to respond to calls involving intimate partner violence (IPV), sexual violence, and other forms of harm or aggression within relationships. These types of domestic-related incidents are among the top five most frequent calls police officers respond to in Saskatoon.
With a focus on individualized and targeted intervention, universal prevention and survivor support, the team ensures consistent follow-up, routine checks on offenders, enforcement of court conditions and access to relevant services and programs. If conditions aren’t met, the team works together to develop a new plan tailored to the situation. In addition to frontline response, the IPVRT also develops specialized training for other officers to strengthen the overall capacity of the SPS to respond effectively and compassionately to IPV-related calls for service.
By pairing police with social supports, the team can address not only the immediate safety concerns but also the underlying causes and ongoing risks of IPV.
If you or someone you know is experiencing intimate partner violence, please call 306-975-8300, or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
