The suspect failed to surrender peacefully when a canine team was deployed. Subsequently, a conducted energy weapon was utilized and assisted in taking the male into custody.
The conducted energy weapon was not deployed before the canine team attempted to make the arrest as indicated below.

A 41 year old man is in custody following an incident on February 8, 2022 at 7:56 p.m., that resulted in Police deploying a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW).
Officers were dispatched to a home on Hamilton Place for a disturbance. When patrol officers arrived, a male was dumping gasoline on and inside of a vehicle. He then got into that vehicle and drove across a yard, through a fence, and left the area. Officers located that vehicle within minutes at a business on 22nd Street and Witney Ave purchasing more gasoline. Officers attempted to make an arrest but the suspect had locked himself in his vehicle, refused to comply, and then drove off.
Patrol officers pursued this vehicle and numerous tire deflation devices were utilized at several locations in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver stopped on two occasions where officers attempted to do a high risk traffic stop. The last location was in the 1000 block on 2nd Ave N where the driver put his vehicle into reverse and rammed a patrol vehicle. Both patrol officers in that vehicle were not injured as a result.
The driver then continued driving north bound on Warman Road at which point two additional patrol units made vehicle contact and were able to successfully stop the suspect vehicle. The suspect then attempted to set his vehicle on fire using a car battery booster. When the male exited the vehicle, he was aggressive and non-compliant. An officer deployed a CEW which did not stop the suspect. A police K-9 dog was deployed and successful in stopping the suspect which then allowed officers to take him into custody.
The male was taken to the hospital by Medavie Health Services to be treated for injuries consistent with a dog bite. Once he has been medically cleared, he will return to Saskatoon Police detention where he will remain until attending court tomorrow. He is facing a variety of charges which include; utter threats to cause death, assault, assault with a weapon X3, evade police, dangerous driving, and possession of incendiary materials.
One officer involved with making vehicle contact with the suspect vehicle suffered a minor head injury and was checked by Medavie Health Services at scene.
The incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
