Arrests - Multiple Dangerous Driving Incidents With Stolen Vehicles - Saskatoon

The Saskatoon Police Service has made multiple arrests in connection to dangerous driving incidents, over the past few days. All of which involved a stolen vehicle.

On May 5, 2023, at around 4:30 a.m., police observed a suspected stolen vehicle near the intersection of Avenue X North and Rusholme Road. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The SPS Air Support Unit (ASU) tracked the vehicle to the 200 Block of Camponi Place, where it had been abandoned. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot but was arrested shortly after, without further incident. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and the driver was found to be in possession of a small amount of fentanyl.

A 47-year-old man is charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), and Breach of Conditions.

On May 8, 2023, at around 4:15 a.m., police observed a vehicle, with two occupants, driving with a substantial amount of damage. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of 33rd Street East and 7th Avenue North but the driver fled. Once again the SPS ASU took over tracking the vehicle, as it travelled northbound on Idylwyld Drive. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Highway 12, where the driver fled on foot. A 32-year-old woman, who was in the passenger seat, was arrested without further incident. The SPS Canine Unit began tracking the driver, and a 37-year-old man was arrested soon after, without further incident. No contact was made by the SPS Police Service Dog (PSD). The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, and both the driver and passenger where found to be in possession of concealed knives.

The 37-year-old man is charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Prohibited Weapon, and Breach of Conditions. The 32-year-old woman was charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Then on May 9, 2023, at around 12:45 p.m., police observed a suspicious vehicle in an alleyway near the intersection of 22nd Street West and Avenue L South. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Shortly after, officers in the area spotted the vehicle abandoned in an alleyway near Avenue M South and 20th Street West. Bystanders were able to direct officers in the correct direction and the driver was arrested nearby, without further incident. The 39-year-old man was found to be in possession of a small amount of fentanyl and carrying a concealed knife.

He has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl).
