Renewed Request For Public Assistance - Historical Homicide - 200 Block Avenue K North

Following 20 years of investigation, the Saskatoon Police Service is renewing its request for public assistance in the 2003 homicide of Glen McCoy.

In the morning hours of July 12, 2003, police responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence in the 200 block of Avenue K North. Upon arrival, then 84-year-old Glen McCoy was found suffering from serious injuries. He died the following day. Glen McCoy was later confirmed to be the victim of homicide.

The investigation into this historical homicide remains open. No suspects have been arrested but investigators believe members of the public may have information helpful in solving the case. One of which incorrectly states that police received the call for service in the evening hours of July 12, 2003; this correction has been reflected in this renewed request for public assistance.

July 17, 2003 3:21 p.m.

This release should read in conjunction with media release #116 and #119.

On Saturday 8:26 p.m. July 12th, 2003, members of the Saskatoon Police Service responded to a complaint of a break and enter at a residence in the 200 block Avenue K North.

The residence was searched and 84 year old Glen McCoy was found seriously injured inside the house. On Sunday, July 13 Mr. McCoy died as a result of his injuries. Investigators believe the break in occurred between 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 10th and 8:00 a.m. Saturday July 12th. Police believe some property was stolen from the residence. A starter pistol was located at the scene.

Investigators have learned that three suspicious individuals were seen in the area between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Friday July 11th. These three individuals are described as:

#1: Indigenous male, 16 years of age, 5’8” tall, medium build with collar length dark hair. Wearing a black football style jersey with white numbers or writing on it, black pants and wire rim sunglasses with smaller style lenses.

#2: Male, somewhat shorter than suspect #1.

#3: Male, somewhat shorter than suspect #1.

There are no further descriptions known for individuals #2 and #3.

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the identity of these three individuals or any individuals responsible for the break in to Mr. McCoy’s residence contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 931-8477.

July 14, 2003 4:28 p.m.

The following is a follow up to media release #116, released on 2003-July-12.

The elderly male found injured in his residence in the 200 block Avenue K N. has died.

The deceased individual is Glen McCoy, 84 years of age, of Saskatoon. Mr. McCoy’s death is being considered suspicious at this time. Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. McCoy.

The police are asking for the assistance of the public regarding the movements of Mr. McCoy between July 10th and July 12th.

Anyone having information regarding Mr. McCoy’s activities during that time frame or information on any suspicious activity in the 200 block Avenue K N. are encouraged to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 931-8477.

July 12, 2003 8:28 p.m.

Saskatoon Police Major Crime unit members are investigating the serious injury of an elderly male in the 200 blk of Ave K No which occurred sometime between the late afternoon of July 10th and the morning of July 12th.

Police are currently investigating a possible break and enter at the victim’s residence which may have resulted in him sustaining injuries from unknown assailants.

No further info will be released until family members have been notified.
