Renewed Request For Public Assistance - Historical Homicide - Marie Lasas

The Saskatoon Police Service is renewing its request for public assistance in the historical homicide of Marie Lasas.

It has been 16 years since the body of missing then 19-year-old Marie Lasas was discovered on June 30, 2007 in the 200 block of 33rd Street West. She had been reported missing by family in September of 2006 after having failed to remain in regular contact.

The investigation into this historical homicide remains open. No suspects have been arrested but investigators believe members of the public may have information helpful in solving the case. Anyone with relevant information to offer is asked to contact police directly at 306-975-8300 or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. July 19, 2007 1:41 p.m.

Human remains found in the 200 block of 33rd Street West on June 30, 2007 have now been positively identified as those of 19-year-old Marie Lasas.

Marie Lasas had been the subject of a missing person investigation by the Saskatoon Police Service Missing Person Task Force and Major Crime Section. She was last seen leaving a friend’s house in the 600 block of Avenue H South on September 24, 2006.

The remains were positively identified through dental records with assistance from officials with the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry and the Forensic Identification Lab – Department of Archeology.

Marie Lasas’ death is being considered a homicide and investigators are continuing to follow any leads that may have been developed as part of the missing person investigation.

The Saskatoon Police Service is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing person.

19-year-old Marie Lasas was last seen leaving a friend’s house in the 600 block of Avenue H South on September 24, 2006 at approximately 10:30 p.m.. She told a friend she was planning to walk to a family member’s house on 28th Street.

Since that time Lasas has not been seen. Police have found that she has failed to pick up a government cheque and has missed regular calls to her children. This information has made her family and police concerned for her safety.

Marie Lasas is described as 5’6” in height, 130 lbs, with auburn hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing grey jeans, a black jacket, and a white headband.
