Arrests - Evade Police Incidents - Air Support Unit Assistance

The Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit (ASU) assisted in two evade police incidents over the weekend.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. on April 20, 2024 police attempted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle near Boychuk Drive and Briarwood Road. The vehicle refused to stop and evaded officers at a high rate of speed before ground officers disengaged and ASU began monitoring the vehicle.

ASU followed the vehicle to Attridge Drive near Forest Drive where officers were set up and successfully deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle eventually lost control and collided with the centre median, at this time officers were able to arrest the suspect.

Upon further investigation, officers located two firearms in the vehicle.

As a result, a 28-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and breaching court ordered conditions.

On April 21, 2024 at approximately 2:00 a.m. police attempted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle on Avenue I and 22nd Street West. While approaching the vehicle, officers realized the vehicle was reported stolen and the vehicle fled, evading police.

Air Support Unit (ASU) took over and followed the vehicle to Vancouver Avenue South and 18th Street West where the occupants then abandoned the vehicle and fled; ASU was able to direct officers to their location.

As a result, a 27-year-old man has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. A 23-year-old woman has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property.
