Arrests – Evade Police / Break And Enter / Weapons Offence – Air Support Unit Assistance

The Saskatoon Police Air Support Unit assisted in multiple incidents over the weekend.

On April 28, 2024 at approximately 2:20 a.m. police responded to reports of a break and enter in the 1900 Block of McKercher Drive.

After arriving on scene, officers learned the suspects had already left but were seen walking southbound. Members of the ASU began monitoring the suspects and directed officers to their location.

As a result, a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male were arrested and charged with break and enter, and theft over $5000. The 15-year-old is also charged with breaching court ordered conditions.

On April 28, 2024 at approximately 4:10 a.m. police attempted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of 19th Street West and Avenue J South. The vehicle stopped momentarily before evading police.

Ground officers disengaged as members of the SPS Air Support Unit (ASU) then began monitoring the vehicle as it fled at a high rate of speed. ASU was able to follow the vehicle to a parking lot where officers were able to surround and arrest the driver.

As a result, a 30-year-old man has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

On April 29, 2024 at approximately 2:20 a.m. police responded to a weapons complaint in 100 Block of Pacific Avenue.

While on route to the scene, members of the ASU informed officers on the ground that they had driven by a man who matched the description of the suspect. Officers located and arrested the man; after further investigation, officers found a pocket knife in his jacket.

As a result, a 33-year-old man has been charged carrying a weapon dangerous to the public, concealing a weapon, as well as failing to comply with court ordered conditions.
