The Saskatoon Police Service has concluded its planned public safety and traffic enforcement activities following a busy weekend of events across the city.
In advance of this year’s events, the SPS conducted operational planning and shared public messaging to ensure drivers understanding of what to expect. Additional police resources were deployed throughout the weekend to support public safety, manage traffic and address unsafe driving behaviour.
“Cruise weekend and several other events this past weekend brought a significant increase in vehicle and pedestrian activity to different areas of the city,” said Inspector Tony Landry, Patrol Support. “While most enjoyed the weekend responsibly, our members maintained a highly visible presence to manage increased traffic, address unsafe driving and help ensure the event could be enjoyed safely.”
Over the course of the weekend, police conducted the following enforcement:
- 341 Summary Offence Tickets, primarily for speeding, distracted driving and stunting/racing;
- 149 warnings;
- 332 Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests; and
- 17 suspended drivers and eight impounds.
Other notable events included:
- A vehicle travelling 64 km/h over the speed limit (114 km/h in a 50 km/h zone);
- A motorcyclist evaded police and was observed by the SPS Air Support Unit travelling 101 km/h (in a 50 km/h zone). In addition to speeding, the operator was issued six tickets totalling more than $3000; and
- Execution of two arrest warrants.
This compares to 592 SOTs, 140 warnings and 17 driver suspensions in 2025.
The SPS wishes to thank those that enjoyed the weekend responsibly.

The Saskatoon Police Service is reminding motorists that this coming weekend is the annual Rock 102 Show and Shine weekend. The car show is held on Sunday, August 16th, and there will be traffic restrictions in the downtown area for most of the day.
Historically, vehicle and pedestrian volumes increase on 8th Street during the evening hours on this particular weekend. Motorists using 8th Street are asked to be patient and cautious. All traffic laws, bylaws, and regulations will be enforced with a zero-tolerance approach.
The SPS will be maintaining a high-profile presence downtown, on 8th Street, and in adjacent parking lots over the weekend to ensure traffic and pedestrian safety. Road restrictions may be put in place to facilitate a safer flow of traffic as required.
The Saskatoon Police Service wishes everyone a safe, lawful, and enjoyable Cruise Weekend.
