Public Advisory: Festival Impersonation Scam

The Saskatoon Police Service Economic Crime Section is advising the public of an impersonation scam. In this scam, fraudsters impersonate representatives of legitimate small festivals and tradeshows to solicit prospective vendors to register and defraud them of application fees. The Economic Crime Section advises the following to prevent victimization of this scam;

  • Be vigilant and understand that a website, social media page, or email may be fraudulent
  • Verify independently by some other means of communication that you are communicating with the actual organizers of the event
  • Independently verify any money transfer details before sending funds
  • Report any misleading or fraudulent web pages to event hosts

If you have seen a suspicious advertisement and suspect fraud but have not been victimized, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If you have become the victim of fraud, contact your local police or report it to the Saskatoon Police Service by calling 306-975-8300; in an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
