Public Relations and Strategic Communications
The Saskatoon Police Service is looking to add to the Public Relations and Strategic Communications team. We are seeking someone who is a dynamic and creative leader and excels in video production and audio content creation.
Duties:
- Executes content marketing and contributes to overall strategy development.
- Monitors and analyzes social media trends.
- Executes multi-media campaigns, internal training and public awareness initiatives.
- Focuses on expanding and managing subscribers to the various SPS communication mediums through annual content calendar maintenance, content creation, and design assets.
- Responds to requests and inquiries received by the division.
- Assists in the preparation, coordination, distribution and retention of media releases.
- Analyzes sentiment and creates reports relating to SPS media coverage.
- Responds to media inquiries and conduct interviews with members of the news media.
- Conducts media relations at major incidents and supports rapid response, including drafting statements.
- Executes public engagement programs.
- Performs photography at SPS events.
- Monitors and distributes emails received by the general SPS email account.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Marketing or a related field in communications, including the understanding of content management systems.
- Two to four years’ related experience in content development, experience with social media as part of a strategic communications plan and experience with digital marketing.
- Design and development of web-based applications and frameworks. Technical aptitude and knowledge of web technologies and relevant software such as Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop and Illustrator; web browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer; web analytics such as Google, Facebook, etc.
- Superior writing and communication skills. Ability to express and communicate ideas, concepts and complex problems, both written and orally, to a variety of audiences. Proficient in the English language with demonstrated writing, editing, proof reading and research skills.
- Photography, videography, video editing and graphic design skills would be an asset.
- Understanding of Portal, collaborative, and social networking technologies, hand held communication devices, and the ability to troubleshoot on website and social media technologies and to adapt to continuous change in a dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize and meet tight deadlines when critical events occur, e.g. daily deadlines for top stories, public safety notices and most media requests. Experience in crisis communications would be as asset.
- Demonstrated and documented effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work alone or in a team environment.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process.
Salary:
$80,142.48 to $94,167.60 per annum (2025 rates)
Hours of Work:
Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM
