Saskatoon Police received a call of a dog and a male in the river on March 29, 2020, at 3:17p.m. on the east side of the river near the Chief Mistawasis Bridge.
With assistance from the Saskatoon Police Air Support Unit, ground units were directed to the male. The male is suffering from hypothermia as members from Patrol, Saskatoon Fire Department and Medavie Health Services attempt to carry him to safety. The challenge that Emergency Services are experiencing is that the pathways down to the river are extremely icy and they have a significant distance to carry this male.
An attending officer injured his ankle attempting to assist the male victim. Emergency Services are working to remove the injured officer as well.
Saskatoon Police are asking that members of the public not go into the water and stay off the ice.
The dog was successfully retrieved from the water and is doing great.
More details to follow once they are available.
