A 48 year old Saskatoon man is facing a weapons charge that resulted in Police deploying a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW).

At approximately 8:47 p.m. on March 30, 2020, a patrol officer observed a male at the intersection of 22nd St W and Ave I carrying a knife in his hand. The officer stopped and attempted to have the male drop the knife. The male refused and continued to act irrationally. Another patrol officer arrived within seconds and was able to successfully deploy a CEW. The male dropped the large knife to the ground and was taken into custody without further incident.

The male was transported to the hospital as a precaution. Once he is medically cleared, he will be facing a charge of weapon dangerous and be brought before the court at a later date.

The incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
