A 31 year old Lloydminster man is facing charges following an incident in which a driver evaded police overnight.
At approximately 2:10 a.m., July 14, 2020, patrol officers attempted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of 8th Street East. The Oldsmobile Alero did stop briefly as a passenger fled the vehicle on foot. The driver then continued to travel down 8th Street, making it's way out of the city southbound. Members of the Air Support Unit were able to maintain visual contact with the suspect vehicle and witnessed it travel to Dundurn before turning around and traveling back into the city on Highway 11. Ground units had deployed a tire deflation device near Vic Blvd. which was successful in damaging the vehicle's tires. The suspect continued to drive, turning east and then north while on tire rims, before striking a pothole near Herold Road and coming to a stop.
The 31 year old man was taken into custody at the scene. Inside the vehicle officers located alcohol, a bag of Gabapentin pills and drug paraphernalia. Preliminary charges include; dangerous driving, evade police and breach of court conditions.
