Update - Suspicious Death/Homicide - 3700 Block Diefenbaker Drive

The Saskatoon Police Service, Major Crime Section have charged a 21 year old male in connection with the July 11th , 2020 death of 19 year old Hailey Belanger - Weeseekase.

The accused was arrested this morning at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary where he was being remanded on unrelated charges. It is believed that the victim and the accused were known to each other. The  Major Crime Section continues to investigate this incident.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th , 2020. The male is facing the charge of Second Degree Murder. (Court Information # 991135166)

The Saskatoon Police Service, Major Crime Section have charged a 15 year old female youth in connection with the July 11th, 2020 death of 19 year old Hailey Belanger-Weeseekase.

The female youth was arrested this morning at the Kilburn Hall Youth Center where she was being remanded on unrelated charges. It is believed that the victim and the accused were known to each other. The  Major Crime Section continues to investigate this incident.

The female youth is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court at 9:00 a.m. on July 20, 2020. The youth is facing the charge of Second Degree Murder (Court Information # 991133808)

Members of the Saskatoon Police Service, Major Crime Section are investigating a weekend death as a homicide.

On Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 3:34 p.m., the Saskatoon Police Service attended to an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Diefenbaker Drive for the report of a deceased female located in a vehicle. On arrival Patrol officers located and confirmed that 19 year old Hailey Belanger-Weeseekase was deceased.

An autopsy was completed yesterday. Based on the results of this autopsy and further investigation by the Major Crime Section the death is now considered a homicide.

The detectives, along with the Forensic Identification Section and with cooperation from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, continue to investigate the circumstances around the death.

On July 11, 2020 at 3:34 p.m., the Saskatoon Police Service attended to an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Diefenbaker Drive for the report of a deceased female located in a vehicle. On arrival Patrol officers confirmed that a 19 year old female was deceased.

Members of the Saskatoon Police Service, Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section, in cooperation with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, are actively investigating this incident.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has been ordered by the Office of the Chief Coroner. No additional information will be provided at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
