Graffiti Arrest Leads To Weapon Charges And CEW Deployment

At 1:12 p.m. today, a Saskatoon Police Service Bike Unit officer was riding northbound in the 100 block of 2 Av N. The officer smelled fresh paint and observed a male in an alley that had just applied graffiti to a business wall. A second officer arrived and they attempted to arrest the male. The male produced a knife from his back and held it up to the officers. He failed to drop the knife and a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed. The male was taken into custody.

A 29 year old male was transported to hospital by Medavie Health Services. While en route, the male spit on a paramedic.

The male is facing charges of mischief, assaulting a police officer x 2, common assault, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon dangerous to the public. He will be seeing a Justice of the Peace.

The use of the CEW will be reviewed as per Policy.
