Two people are facing charges after officers responded to a break and enter in progress over the weekend during which a firearm was pointed at police.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., August 8, 2020, Police responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 1600 block of Avenue B North. It was reported that two people entered the house unlawfully and assaulted the occupant who fled to safety before calling Police. The two suspects were reportedly still inside the residence when Police arrived. An officer attended to the rear of the residence to investigate. As the member turned the corner, a male was standing on the deck pointing a firearm at the officer. The officer was able to take cover behind a nearby tree. The Tactical Support and Guns & Gangs Units responded and a male and female were eventually negotiated out of the residence and taken into custody.
A sawed-off rifle was seized from inside the residence following the execution of a search warrant.
A 20-year-old male is charged with Using Firearm in Commission of Offence, Careless Use of Firearm, Point Firearm, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Firearm Knowing It's Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence, Possession Contrary to Order, Assault and Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon.
