Five people are facing charges after using a firearm to steal a vehicle and fleeing from Police last night.
At approximately 10:00 p.m., August 23, 2020, a group of males approached a person at a business in the 3000 block of Diefenbaker Drive and demanded keys to their vehicle. One of the males brandished a firearm before they all fled in a white Ford truck. The SPS Air Support Unit tracked the vehicle and observed it travelling at high rates of speed and driving into oncoming traffic as it headed outside of city limits on highway 14. A tire deflation device was successful and the ASU was able to relay to ground units that the vehicle was slowing. As Police approached, the vehicle again tried to flee but was unsuccessful. Four occupants were taken into custody from inside the vehicle, and a fifth was found to have fled from the vehicle but was apprehended by an attending Patrol unit. One male passenger from the vehicle was found to be in possession of brass knuckles.
