One man is facing a number of charges after attempting to flee from Police last night.
At approximately 7:00 p.m., August 25, 2020, Patrol members observed a man standing on the sidewalk near 20th Street East and First Avenue South. He appeared to be threatening another individual with a can of bear spray. Officers observed a brief foot chase between the two individuals, before the suspect returned without the bear spray. The suspect continued to provide false identities to Police as he was being detained for a weapons investigation. Inside of his backpack, officers located bolt cutters, a modified fork, a meth pipe and identity documents that did not belong to the suspect. During his interaction with Police, the suspect fled on foot toward the Traffic Bridge. He abandoned his shirt and gloves that he had been wearing, along with a set of brass knuckles. The Canine Unit was deployed and quickly located and apprehended the suspect with the use of a Police Service Dog (PSD). The suspect had been attempting to hide in thick brush on the riverbank. His injury sustained by the dog bite, was treated on scene by paramedics before he was transported to Detention.
A 27 year old man is charged with Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Obstruction, Possession of Identity Documents Relating to Another Person (x2), Escape Lawful Custody, Possession of Break and Enter Tools, Breach of Release and Breach of Probation.
