A man is in custody after a conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed this afternoon.

At 2:30 p.m., September 3, 2020, Patrol officers responded to a report of a man grabbing a woman and putting her into a vehicle on 33rd Street near Circle Drive. The man then laid down on Circle Drive before getting up and approaching a responding officer in a patrol vehicle. The suspect opened the door of the patrol vehicle and attempted to grab the officer. A CEW was deployed and the man was taken into custody.

The 25-year-old man was transported to hospital for treatment relating to his erratic behaviour. It is believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant. He is charged with Assaulting a Police Officer and Assault.

The man and woman are known to each other. The woman was assessed at the scene for minor injuries.
