The Saskatoon Police Service has taken on an initiative to further educate citizens of Saskatoon in the area of fraud prevention. Crypto-currency (Bitcoin) is often requested by fraudsters and scammers as a form of payment. Crypo-currency is a de-centralized digital currency that is not regulated by the government or banks here in Canada. Criminals will direct victims to Bitcoin ATM machines throughout Saskatoon for payment in these scams.
The Regina Police Service initiated this poster campaign and Saskatoon Police Service Economic Crime Unit followed suit by creating a similar poster to notify both victims and store owners that government agencies do not and WILL NOT request any payment through Bitcoin.
Posters have been placed above or near Bitcoin ATM's throughout the city.
