The Saskatoon Police Service is confirming its first COVID-19 positive case in a sworn member.
On Thursday, October 29, 2020, SPS Administration was notified that a sworn member of the police service tested positive for COVID-19. The member is in an administrative position, has limited interaction with front line members, and does not interact with the public in the course of their duties. It is not believed the individual contracted COVID-19 from anyone in the workplace. They will continue to follow the direction of the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
The Police Service is working closely with Public Health officials to provide deep cleaning of any areas the officer may have been in and any necessary contact tracing.
For privacy reasons, any further identifying information about the member, or health updates, will not be provided.
“As a police service, we are considerate of the concern that members of the community may have upon hearing that a police officer has tested positive for COVID-19,” says Chief Troy Cooper. “However we want to assure citizens that we have planned for this likely possibility and remain in a strong position to continue to effectively serve our community.”
The SPS wishes our member a quick recovery.
