Public Health Act Investigation - Charge Laid Following Protest

The Saskatoon Police Service has issued a ticket to a key participant of a protest that took place on December 5, 2020.

Following an investigation, and in consultation with the provincial crown and public health officials, a $2,800 ticket was issued for a violation under The Public Health Act, 1994. This is the 7th ticket that the SPS has issued. Police will continue to be present at all future public gatherings that impact community safety.

“The issuing of a fine is the next step in attempting to gain compliance, says Chief Troy Cooper. “However, we continue to consult with health officials and crown prosecutors, and going forward the scope of our investigations and enforcement may expand beyond key participants.”

Police wish to remind the public of the current public health order, which can be found at www.saskatchewan.ca/covid19.
