Domestic Dispute - Police Involved Shooting

On January 5, 2021,  members of the Regina Police Service Major Crime Section arrested and charged a 27-year-old man with  two counts of Assaulting a Police Officer with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public in relation to the officer involved shooting on December 23, 2020 in the 1100 block of Avenue W North.  The man is the subject that was injured in the incident.

At the time of his arrest in Saskatoon, the male was in possession of a weapon and has been charged with two additional weapon-related offences not associated to the December 23rd incident. 

The male will attend court via CCTV at 2:00 p.m., January 6, 2021.

The Regina Police Service is continuing to investigate the incident.

Members of Regina Police Service (RPS) Major Crime Section have been requested to investigate following a Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officer-involved shooting which occurred December 23, 2020.

At approximately 5:50 p.m. Police were called to a report of a domestic altercation involving a male armed with a weapon in an apartment in the 1100 block Ave. W North.

During the response to the incident shots were fired, injuring the male. He is being treated in hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

In response to plans by the Saskatchewan Government to ensure greater independence in investigations involving police involved incidents, the SPS requested the investigation be led by the RPS. The SPS has also requested the Province appoint an independent investigation observer to ensure transparency.
