New Year's Eve Checkstop Results In Several Charges

Members of the Saskatoon Police Service conducted a large scale sobriety checkpoint on New Year’s Eve in partnership with members of the Corman Park Police, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol and Canadian Pacific Police.

Volunteers from the Saskatoon Chapter of MADD were on hand to thank sober drivers and handed out 300 coupons for free pizza as well as other gifts to sober drivers.

18 drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and were either suspended or charged: 13 were under the influence of either cannabis or cocaine and 5 were dealt with for alcohol related impairment. In all, 18 vehicles were impounded for various periods of time.

Additionally, 2 people were charged under the Cannabis Control Act and 1 under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act.

About 350 vehicles were checked in total.
