A 33 year old man is facing charges following a report of a suspicious person that resulted in Police deploying a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW).
At approximately 8:11 a.m., on February 22, 2021, Police attended to the 400 block of Avenue R South for a male causing a disturbance at a residence. The male provided a false identity and was advised by Police that he was under arrest for Obstruction. The responding officers attempted to take him into custody but the man immediately became physically combative and resisted arrest. A Conducted Energy Weapon was deployed, but was ineffective. The man was eventually taken into custody and transported to SPS detention where he was assessed by Medavie Health Services personnel. It was later confirmed that the male was under the influence of an intoxicant.
The Saskatoon man is now facing charges of Identity Fraud and Wilfully Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer. The 33 year old man also had an outstanding Criminal Code warrant for being Unlawfully at Large.
This incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
