A man is facing charges after unlawfully entering an unlocked garage and stealing a vehicle earlier this morning.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., January 8, 2021, Patrol officers responded to the 1300 block of Acadia Drive after a homeowner reported seeing someone driving their red Jeep Cherokee out of the garage. Police located the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop however the operator of the vehicle refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Stop sticks were successfully deployed on Circle Drive by the Warman Road overpass. Upon the vehicle stopping, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody by a canine unit before being taken to SPS Detention.

The 23-year-old man is charged with Break and Enter, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Evade Police, and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Police wish to remind the public of the importance of securing garages and vehicles, and removing any nearby keys and valuables.
