At approximately 12:20 p.m., April 22, 2021, Saskatoon Police received reports of a man damaging parked vehicles with a pipe in the 1300 block of 20th Street West. Members of Patrol and the Canine Unit responded and located the male suspect. He appeared to be agitated and was attempting to harm himself and refusing to comply with officer commands. A member of the Tactical Support Unit deployed two rounds from a bean bag device, a less-lethal use of force, but it was not successful in subduing the suspect. The suspect became aggressive and attempted to assault officers before fleeing into traffic. He was apprehended on 20th Street West with the assistance of the Police Service Dog. Paramedics treated the suspect on scene for minor injuries from the bean bags and dog bite, before he was released back into Police custody and transported to Detention.
Charges are pending against the 30-year-old man.
