A 30-year-old man is facing charges after a firearms investigation by the SPS Guns & Gangs Unit.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., April 30, 2021, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit observed a man who was believed to be in possession of firearms at a gas station in the 1000 block of McKercher Drive. A Canine Unit attempted to stop the man who had entered a black Dodge Ram. The truck fled and was observed driving erratically before it was located abandoned in the 300 block of Auld Place. A canine track located a BB gun in a nearby yard and eventually led to the 4000 block of Degeer Street where the suspect was arrested from inside an apartment.
The truck and license plate were both later found to have been stolen in separate incidents.
The 30-year-old is charged with Possession of Stolen Property (x2), Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Prohibited Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Prohibited Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order, Possession of Dangerous Weapon and breach of a court order.
