Traffic Stop Leads To Firearms Charges - 8th Street And Arlington Avenue

An Edmonton, AB man is facing charges after he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun following a traffic stop for a cellphone infraction on Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., May 2, 2021, SPS officers were conducting traffic enforcement on 8th Street East near Arlington Avenue when they observed a man operating a Hyundai Tucson to be using his cell phone. Police confirmed the man’s identity and found him to be in possession of a loaded firearm. He was taken into custody without incident.

The 22-year-old man is charged with Careless Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Unauthorized Possession in Motor Vehicle, Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence, Prohibited Possession of Firearm, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Proceeds of Crime (x2).
