The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section has arrested a man and charged him with the first degree murder of Megan Gallagher

On September 20th, 2022, SPS investigators, with assistance from British Columbia RCMP (E Division), arrested the 27-year-old man at a residence in Prince George, B.C.  He is being transported back to Saskatoon where he will appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court later this week.

This is the fifth arrest made by the SPS in connection to the homicide of Megan Gallagher. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

At this time Megan has not been located and investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward, with any tips they may have. Contact the SPS at 306-975-8300 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Another arrest has been made in connection with the death of Megan Gallagher.

On July 27th, 2022, John Wayne Sanderson, age 44 (DOB 1978/03/12), was taken into custody by members of the Melfort RCMP, at James Smith First Nation. Sanderson was one of three people wanted by police in connection to the investigation. In total four people have been charged and arrested. Sanderson is charged under Section 182 (b) of the Criminal Code – Indignity to Human Remains and also has unrelated warrants with the RCMP. He is expected to appear via video, in Melfort Provincial Court, on July 28th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

The second of three persons wanted in connection with the death of Megan Gallagher was arrested by the RCMP on June 4, 2022.

Jessica Sutherland, age 42, was taken into custody by members of the RCMP in the area of Onion Lake following a tip from the public. She is charged under Section 182 (b) of the Criminal Code – Indignity to Human Remains and is expected to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 6, 2022 at 9:00 a.m..

Police continue to seek information regarding the whereabouts of one other person wanted in connection to the case.

John Wayne Sanderson – DOB 1978/03/12, age 44, of the James Smith First Nation.

Sanderson is wanted under Section 182 (b) of the Criminal Code – Indignity to Human Remains.

One of three persons wanted in connection with the death of Megan Gallagher was arrested by the RCMP overnight.

Roderick William Sutherland, age 44, was taken into custody by members of the RCMP in the area of Prince Albert following a tip from the public. He is charged under Section 182 (b) of the Criminal Code – Indignity to Human Remains and is expected to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 3, 2022 at 9:00 a.m..

Investigators from the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crimes Section have arrested and charged a 41-year-old man in connection with the death of Megan Gallagher.  Gallagher was last seen in Saskatoon in September of 2020.  In January of 2021 the SPS announced it was treating the disappearance of Gallagher as a homicide investigation.

The 41-year-old Saskatoon man will be charged under Section 182 (b) of the Criminal Code – Indignity to Human Remains.  He is expected to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 2, 2022.  Court information # 991198288.

Police have also issued arrest warrants for three other people connected to the case.

Wanted are:

John Wayne Sanderson –   DOB 1978/03/12, age 44 of the James Smith First Nation

Roderick William Sutherland – DOB 1978-02-07, age 44 yrs. – Address Unknown

Jessica Sutherland – DOB  1979-10-24, age 45 years – Address Unknown

All three are wanted under Section 182(b) CCC – Indignity to Human Remains.  Their images have been attached for distribution.  Their photos appear in the following order from left to right; Sanderson, Sutherland J., Sutherland R. 

Major Crime investigators continue to seek information in regard to this case. Investigators with the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section are releasing the audio of a phone call as it relates to the ongoing and active investigation into the disappearance of Megan Gallagher.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., September 21, 2020, an unidentified female used Megan’s cell phone to call for a cab. This is one day after Megan was last seen alive on video surveillance at a convenience store in the 3700 block of Diefenbaker Drive. There is also an unidentified male voice that can be heard. The two individuals are calling for a cab to pick them up from the 700 block of Weldon Avenue. Investigators confirmed that they were dropped off in the 100 block of Avenue P South. Megan's phone has not been located by Police.

The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section is entering into a homicide investigation into the suspicious missing persons file of 30-year-old Megan Gallagher.

Throughout the investigation, the Major Crime Section has been assisting the Missing Persons Detail and has spoken to several people in regards to Megan’s disappearance. There remain others who police wish to speak with. Anyone who had contact with Megan, either in person or via phone, text or social media, between September 19th and 30th, 2020, is asked to contact Police.

On September 20, 2020, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Megan was observed on video at a convenience store in the 3700 block of Diefenbaker Drive. She was wearing a black Cabella’s hoodie, black pants, and a light blue shirt underneath her hoodie. Megan also has several tattoos:

  • Half sleeve tattoo with a large owl from shoulder to elbow
  • Tattoo of a cross behind her ear
  • Rainbow coloured feather on her ankle
  • The names “Jake” and “Adam” beneath her arm
  • #13 on her hand

A photo of Megan inside the convenience store are attached for distribution. The surveillance footage of Megan can be found at the SPS Facebook and Twitter accounts.
