A male youth is facing charges after police observed him speeding earlier this morning.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., May 7, 2021, officers attempted to stop a speeding Honda Pilot that was southbound on McOrmond Drive and Stensrud Road. The vehicle was observed travelling at 115 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone. The vehicle refused to stop for police and continued driving erratically. The driver was observed reaching speeds of 168km/hr in a 50km/hr zone on Brighton Boulevard before entering onto Taube Avenue and continuing to drive off-road through a field. The SPS Air Support Unit located the vehicle and observed as the driver abandoned it in the 200 block of Stilling Union. A canine unit attended and found the driver to be hiding in a yard. He was transported to hospital for treatment of dog bites.
The vehicle was later found to have been stolen.
A 17-year-old male is charged with Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, and breach of court orders.
