Multiple Police vehicles were damaged during an evade-police incident early this morning.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., May 18, 2021, members of the Community Mobilization Unit observed a suspicious 2000 white Ford Focus at Avenue P South and 22nd Street West. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. SPS Air Support Unit (ASU) members observed the vehicle being driven erratically into the downtown core, before stopping in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue North. The driver and passenger briefly exited the vehicle but reentered when ground units arrived. The driver struck three Patrol Cars (PC) and nearly struck a number of officers, who had exited their PC’s. The suspect driver and passenger abandoned the damaged vehicle at 2nd Avenue North and Princess Street, fleeing on foot. Both suspects were arrested in the area of 1st Avenue North and King Street. No one was injured during the incident.
A machete, a knife, two cans of bear spray, 60g of methamphetamine, scales, drug packaging and cell phones were located inside the suspect vehicle.
A 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from Prince Albert, SK, are each charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (x4) and Breach of Release.
The man is also charged with Assault with a Weapon (x3), Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Failure to Stop After an Accident (x3) and two impaired driving-related offences.
