A 31 year old Saskatoon man is facing a number of charges following an incident in which the driver of a vehicle refused to stop for police and was witnessed setting the vehicle on fire.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., June 30, 2021 patrol officers witnessed a Ford Freestar in the 100 block of Witney Avenue. It was believed the male was waned on outstanding warrants. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the male continued driving in an attempt to evade police. The vehicle made it's way west on 22nd Street, driving in an erratic manner before striking a Corman Park police vehicle. The Ford then turned around and began traveling back into the city, at one point driving in the wrong lane. Members of the Air Support Unit witnessed the male driver stop and begin starting a fire inside the vehicle. He then drove further east on 22nd Street with the vehicle fully ablaze, before stopping in a ditch near Circle Drive and exiting. He was brought into custody.
Members of the Saskatoon Fire Department attended to extinguish the blaze. The Corman Park police officer was not injured.
The male is now facing charges including; dangerous driving, evade police, arson and breach of court conditions. In addition, he was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants.
