Members from Patrol, the Tactical Support Unit, the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Canine Unit worked together to peacefully resolve a five-hour stand-off with a barricaded person last night.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., July 6, 2021, Police responded to an altercation at an RV park near Highway 16 and 71st Street West involving three individuals in possession of weapons. Two men and a woman were located outside of a motorhome upon arrival; two of them were taken into custody without incident. The third suspect, a 52-year-old man, refused to comply with officer commands and barricaded himself inside the motorhome. It was believed that he was in possession of a firearm.
The suspect acted in an aggressive manner towards Police, threatening them and at one point, threw a knife at officers. Police successfully deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW) and took the suspect into custody without further incident. He was assessed on scene by paramedics before being transported to SPS Detention. A rifle was located inside the motorhome.
To ensure public safety, individuals camping nearby were evacuated from the area during the incident. No one was injured.
A 52-year-old Langham, SK man is facing four firearms-related offences and is charged with Assaulting a Police Officer and Causing a Disturbance.
A 40-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Saskatoon, are also charged with Causing a Disturbance.
The incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy
