A SPS patrol officer deployed their conducted energy weapon this morning after responding to a report of a suspicious person.
At approximately 8:45 a.m., January 4, 2021, patrol officers were dispatched to a report of a man acting erratically, approaching students at a nearby school, and walking into traffic at the intersection of Rusholme Road and Avenue H North. Upon police arrival, it was believed the man was under the influence of an intoxicant. The responding officer attempted to take him into custody but the man immediately became physically combative and resisted arrest. A conducted energy weapon was deployed, but was ineffective. The man was eventually taken into custody and transported to hospital as a precaution.
The 30-year-old man is charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer and breach of court orders.
This incident will be reviewed in accordance to policy.
